Yo-yo Design

Here is the design we came up with for our Calvin and Hobbes yo-yo! Here are pictures of what the assembly should look like when complete.

The yo-yo will contain the following emblems burned on to a cover beneath the thermoformed cover.

The yo-yo will be made up of the following pieces:

Retaining Ring (Injection Molded): This piece will snap-fit into our body to hold our thermoformed cover in place.

Cover (Thermoformed) - The thermoformed cover will go beneath the retaining ring and will hold the face plate in place.

Face plate (Laser Cut) - The face plate will be laser cut our of 1/8" balsa wood and hold the decals shown above.

Yo-yo Body (Injection Molded) -  The body will have the retaining ring snapped into place and will hold the thermoformed cover and face plate.

Table of Specs: A table of specifications for the Yo-yo design was made, with critical dimensions of the components and assembly. It can be found here.


Gantt Chart: We also created a Gantt Chart to schedule the design and manufacturing of our yoyo. You can see the chart here.


Division of Labor: We have decided to divided the labor up by parts

Cover - Ernesto
Black mold - Michelle & Steven 
Orange mold - Luis, Eurah, Jacqueline 
Laser cut piece - Everyone 
All other tasks - Everyone
